Lionel Andrés Messi was born 24 June,1987, in Rosario. He is an Argentine footballer. He is currently playing for Barcelona. Because of his great talent he has already been compared to Diego Maradona. Even though he is too young to be compared to one of the best players ever, Maradona himself confirmed that Messi is the only footballer currently active that can even be compared to him.
At the age of five, Messi started playing football for Grandoli where his father was a coach. After he transfered to Newell's Old Boys, he was diagnosed a growth hormone deficiency. There was not even one club in Argentina that wanted to pay for Messi's treatment, even though his talent was more than obvious. Then FC Barcelona stepped in and Messi joined Barca's youth teams where he starred, and before too long he was a first team regular.
Barcelona debut
It was October 16, 2004 when Messi made his official debut against Espanyol,and his first senior goal had to wait till May, 2005. He was one of the youngest players ever in Barca senior team. Nowdays, there is one other great young player, Bojan Krkić, that again breaks the age records for league debuts and goals.
The comparison between Messi and Maradona became normal after Messi scored a goal very similar to one that made Maradona famous. They both passed several defenders, and scored very similar goals, they even celebrated it the same way.
